Fashion Weight Loss Tips 101: How to Easily Avoid the Typical 5-10 Pound Holiday Weight Gain Fiasco

November 19, 2010 by Michael Jon Lazar

Did you know that according to experts – on average – most people in the United States gain anywhere from five to ten pounds of excess flab over the holiday season? That’s counting Thanksgiving, Xmas and New Year’s Eve. Then, come January, why do you think that weight loss is the top resolution for people starting out the next New Year, nearly ten years and running? Because we all feel a little bit plumper, and we all, for the most part, have packed on a few pounds as we were unwrapping gifts, sipping on eggnog and enjoying jovial family get-togethers. However, there are some simple tricks that you can embrace that can allow for you to thwart this common holiday fat blunder.

Simple Tricks to Avoid Common Holiday Weight Gains

  • Weight loss experts advise that you fill up on hearty, healthy and wholesome fares before attending big holiday dinners, like Thanksgiving for example. If you eat some raw veggies with a low-fat dip, prior to embarking to Uncle Dave’s house, you will ingest far less fats over the yuletide season.
  • Don’t pack your plate or indulge in pie eating contests. The food that is served over the holidays is notoriously fatty and oh’ so delish. Most people consume around 5,000 calories at Thanksgiving dinner alone. Reality check: Eat normal portions, and you won’t have to worry.
  • Just because you are on vacation from school or work does not mean you are on vacation from working out. According to fitness gurus this is a very common no-no. People stop working out because they are on vacation. Then couple this with the high calorie intake, and many people end up spoiling their diets. Keep working out. Eat normal portions. And enjoy a slimmer you come January.
