Arizona Event’s Not to Miss: Hell City Tattoo Festival

July 27, 2010 by Michael Jon Lazar

Being the enigmatic lover of all things that are related to body art, tattoos and getting inked, there are just some events that rarely come to Phoenix, Arizona that are ones not to be missed. Especially if you love tattoos and the related subculture that is directly associated with them! For all of you neophytes for getting tatted who happen to live in Arizona, or who are willing to make the trek out and endure the humid monsoon heats and drizzles of late August, there is one event that you should most certainly add to your calendar: The Hell City Tattoo Festival!

This tattoo festival is entitled: “HELL CITY HEADS WEST!” This will be the Hell City 10 “Let It Burn” festival, which is taking place from August 27-29, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona. The fest is to be held at the prestigious Arizona Biltmore, located at: 2400 E. Missouri Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85016. You can find out more information about this one-of-a-kind event by visiting the website for it, located online at: http://www.hellcity.com.

To better apprise you of all the wondrous spectacles that will be taking place during this awesome event, I find it best to directly cite from their event website, as they really have a lot of great info to offer. If you love tats, and all things related to them, and oh so much more, don’t miss this awesome tattoo festival in Arizona folks!

The Scoop, according to Hellcity.com…

“Rain or Shine, Hell City is “One Hell Of A Good Time”! The Hell City Tattoo Festival is a tattoo convention put on by tattoo artists, featuring world class artists and collectors from around the world! Hell City brings you not only some of the world’s best tattoo masters, but also showcases many of today’s young, up and coming tattoo artists! It is much more than your typical tattoo convention though, Hell City is a one of a kind because we include many other activities that you won’t see at any other tattoo conventions.

If you have ever been to Hell City before, you have seen the massive crowds. The line that gathers before the gates even open looks more like the line to get into a sold out rock concert. Once inside, all that is Hell City will amaze your eyes, ears and skin. With everything from live entertainment on the main stage, to music, to free seminars, The Art Fusion Experiment, tattoo competitions every day, and the lovely Suicide Girls giving out the one of a kind trophies, you will want to stay the entire weekend at the Beautiful Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa! This is our new website with many new features to make your Hell City Experience that much more enjoyable! We encourage feedback from artists and members, your input will help shape the future of this social tattoo network!”

See you all there, fellow body art protagonists!

Trumping it up at Favorite Irish Pub in Chandler, Arizona: Fibber Magee’s

July 16, 2010 by Michael Jon Lazar

I am an Irish man through and through, and the great state of Arizona actually has some pretty impressive pubs to offer to its patrons. Something that you may not think would be a reality in a cowboy western state such as this. But I like to venture out to my favorite Irish pub on the weekends, and sometimes after a long day of work. The place I am most impressed by in this state happens to be located in the bedroom community of Chandler, Arizona. The pub is called Fibber Magee’s Irish Restaurant and Pub (located at 1989 W. Elliot Rd. #19 Chandler, Arizona 85224; Phone: (480) 722-9434; or you can find them online at this web address: http://www.fibbermageespub.com).

There are so many things that I adore about this pub that it is hard to know where to start talking about them all. First off the bat, the servers and the bartenders are very friendly, and I have always been greeted by first name when going there for happy hour—which boasts a great discounted menu of eats and treats, and a buy one, get one for half off beer special on my favorite flavor: Guinness beer! Aside from that, the ambience is amazing, as you can see from the picture to the upper left. It features hard wood table and chairs and an impressively large bar area that can easily seat fifty people!

But wait, it gets even better! Their menu was orchestrated by a world-class, gourmet chef—and allow me to assure you that I have never enjoyed such tasty food at any bar, ever in my life! That aside, the place offers pool tables in the back and darts, and a gated smoking patio for lovers of tobacco products like me. Head out there on Wednesday nights or on the weekends, and they always have fabulous live music with NO COVER CHARGE! A pub does not get any better than this my friends! A centralized location, great food, amazing service, fair prices and FREE live music…could they possibly make this place any better?

I think not!

The Tempe Town Lake Fourth of July Festival Was Smoking Hot!

July 8, 2010 by Michael Jon Lazar

I hope that you all had a really grand Fourth July, as mine was just fantastic! My buddies and I decided that we would hit up the Tempe Town Lake Fourth of July Festival—which is hosted off the popular Mill Avenue in Tempe, Arizona and that overlooks a small, manmade lake the really augments the flare of this burgeoning college town. The tickets were very affordable, and cost six bucks a pop if you bought them at the Fry’s Grocery stores, or they were $8 at the gate, or $15 for two at the gate; we bought ours ahead of time so we knew we could get in.

The festival was adorned with all sorts of crazy cool tents that had foods, drinks, wares and so forth to offer. I dined on a pulled pork sandwich at one point, and later on during the evening I enjoyed a half pound Angus beef cheeseburger. There were live bands playing cover tunes, I was not sure what their names were but they were local to the state. All in all, moods were high, people were in good spirits – despite the triple digit heat – and the fest was a blast, to say the least!

At about 9:10 pm, approximately, the fireworks display was unveiled, shot off over the lake and really a spectacle for the eyes to see. In fact, that was the best part: I have never seen such a lengthy display, one that lasted until nearly ten in the evening and that offered a grand finale that truly was both intense and exhilarating! For a town that is well known to offer great festivals, they truly appeased me this time around. Needless to say, I have a good mind to think that I will be in attendance at this fest next year, come the 4th!
