It’s worth the time to experience Penumbra Theatre’s exhibit on display with vivid imagery, historical photos, show props, and fascinating information honoring August Wilson and African American life throughout the 20th century. The exhibit depicts Penumbra’s staging of Wilson’s 20th Century Cycle, an authentic representation of the hardships and triumphs of African Americans from 1900 to 2000, decade by decade.
Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson dedicated his life to creating stories and characters that were worthy of the black people he knew and of the richness of the culture he saw. “We are what we imagine ourselves to be and we can only imagine what we know to be possible. The founding of Penumbra Theatre enlarged that possibility.” — August Wilson
Come celebrate the work of this great writer and the art staged by the artists he regarded so highly-and rediscover a century of American life.
