Beginning Friday, October 29, cards can be purchased at The Container Store, The Foursome, Il Vostro, Mitrebox Framing Studio and kiddywampus. Retailers provide up to a 20% discount off full-price merchandise during this time.
“Thanks to last year’s great success, we are excited to see the continuation of the Shop, Save, Share Card as part of our fundraising portfolio,‖ said Sarah Borchers, President of the Junior League of Minneapolis. “We see this is an innovative way to raise money, support our local businesses and expand our reach in the community. It is truly a win-win for everyone.”
―The Junior League of Minneapolis does critical work in the community and kiddywampus is thrilled to support that work by participating in the Shop, Save, Share Card program,‖ said Amy Saldanha, owner of kiddywampus. ―This is our second year participating and our customers love it.”
Background on the JLM’s Newest Community Projects:
Between the Lines is a program designed to strengthen the bond between a child and an incarcerated mother or other female caregiver through literacy. JLM members visit a women’s-only prison and tape female inmates reading books to their children or grandchildren. The recording, a new copy of the book and a personal note is then sent to the child.
Backpack Buddies aims to help kids who, due to their family’s financial situation, suffer from chronic hunger and who may not have enough to eat when they’re away from school. League volunteers pack food in reusable bags kids can take home each weekend and return the following Monday. By providing food for children in food-insecure homes, the JLM is improving the chances that these kids will be ready to learn in school, thereby reducing the socioeconomic achievement gap in Minneapolis.
