There are many different looks that the celebrities provide. There is the grunge look, the rocker girl look, the professional and the diva. All of these looks have one thing in common, the clothing fits the individual. I’m not talking that the clothing shows the person’s personality and behaviors, but rather the clothing physically fits the person and uses tailoring to accentuate and hide certain parts of the body.
It is often thought that the more expensive the piece, the more likely it is to fit, this is not always, or even usually, the case. Many of the name brand clothes are stitched in the same facilities, by the same machines and same people, as the non-name brand clothing. The only difference in most clothes is the cost of the clothing. Instead of focusing on the name brand, people should focus on the cut of the clothing.
Darting is a fashion miracle. Darting creates a line for the eye to follow and can be used to increase or decrease the appearance of a body part. Darting can be used to make the bust look bigger and the waist look smaller. Clothing, such as jackets, with darting can be used to take pounds of a person and build bulk where there is none.
Tapering is another useful fashion tool. Tapering is done when the clothing becomes progressively smaller. Think the skinny jeans. They are smaller at the ankle than they are the top of the leg when the strait leg jean is the same size all the way down. This provides the body with a little more height and a leaner look.
Color is an all too frequently misused fashion tool. A lot of people buy colors that they like, but not necessarily appropriate for their skin tone. Other people like to hide behind colors like black in hopes of blending in and hiding their body that they may not be comfortable with. Carefully match the different colors of the fashion world to your skin tone, eyes and hair. This will provide the best results possible and keep you looking beautiful. Black is not as slimming when used all over the body as a single piece of black is and white can make a body stand out and appear bigger.
Patterning is almost more important than color. Pick patterns in clothing that are flattering to the body. If you have a small chest, consider using a horizontal stripe across it to make it appear bigger. If you have a large chest, maybe a diagonal stripe or arrow point down the center of the piece. Do not use horizontal stripes over the widest part of your body. Vertical lines give length, horizontal lines give width. Decorative details like dots and flowers add interest, but the size must be watched on them. Too big and the interest pieces will be overwhelming, too small and they will be hard to see.
Texture is also very important. Remember to use rich fabrics to convey a richer feel. Polyester is nice and pretty, but it can be uncomfortable. Use it if you are comfortable with it, but make sure you keep it in good condition. Cotton and other all natural materials are more comfortable and can be stunning. These are the most recommended materials for dressing.
Keeping all of these factors in mind is important when trying to dress well. However, the most important thing to remember when purchasing clothing is the fit. Do not assume that you fit or you do not fit something. Do not purchase clothing that does not fit you. If you have to lay down on the bed to zip up your pants, it does not fit you. If you cannot see the shape of your body, it does not fit you. If you are unsure about how the piece fits or if it fits you correctly, after all we are our worse enemies, consider bringing a supportive but honest friend with you when you go shopping. This will help you to look put together, fashionable and like the celebrities, even when shopping at Wal-Mart.
