Wine Tasting for Charity – Sabathani Community Center

Sabathani Community Center is hosting a wine tasting on Thursday, May 19 from 6-8pm. All proceeds go to Youth and Senior Programs.

Sabathani is the largest food shelf in Minneapolis and serves 14,000 families every year. Founded in 1966, we are the longest running African American nonprofit in Minnesota. 2016 marks our 50th Anniversary of service.

Working with many young people through the years I can’t stress enough that it’s so important to know the history of fashion.  It’s hard for someone to produce or be stylist for a fashion show if you don’t have an understanding of who, what and why the clothes are on the runway.

Before I was a model, fashion and event producer Sara Rogers and I would read all the magazines and books we could get our hands on.  It helped us understand why dresses, jackets, and many other fashion items were cut a certain way, use of colors. stitching, fabrics and so much more.

I hope you take a moment to read this great article I found.  Believe it or not I learned something and I know you will too.

2nd Annual Red Affair – I’m Judging Best Dressed

The Red Affair has asked me to judge the Best Dressed at their 2nd Annual event. The Red Affair is an amazing event that raises money for Avenues For Homeless Youth. Avenues is a non-profit dedicated to help homeless youth transition.

I learned that approximately 40% of the kids they take in are GLBT. Research shows that on any given night 4,000+ kids are homeless in Minnesota. Cmon… Tickets start at $55 and you get complimentary beverages until 10:30 and concert with Purple Xperience. My friends Esera Tuaolo and Miss Shannon Paul are also involved.

Get dressed up and join me on Saturday, February 6th for The Red Affair to benefit Avenues For Homeless Youth.

My Second Great Love Debate 2016

Last night I completed my second Great Love Debate of 2016. The panel was made up of Kimberly Kohler, Miss Shannon Paul, Donna Valentine (MyTalk 107.1) and Caitlin Foster.

While the questions and format from host Brian Howie the reaction from the audience was completely different. There was some great conversation from Twitter. Role play with guys attempting to show their best game by asking the women out. A discussion about sexting and other complications of dating.

Shore Boards Minnesota Made Stand Up Paddle Boards

I reached to Tim Shore of Shore Boards a Minnesota based company that produces one-of-a-kind, handcrafted, hollow wood stand up paddle boards (SUPs).  I saw a photo of his boards on Instagram and I had to know more. When I see those people using SUPs around Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles it looks fun.

Tim told me he makes two models.  The Minne which is lighter and faster for more experienced paddleboarders. and the Tonka for people looking to get a good workout.

You already know I have a soft spot for well made things in Minnesota.  If I get one will anyone give me lessons?
