Style Trend: Luxe Embellishment

September 25, 2012 by IamMoody

Glitter, sparkle, pop, twinkle, these are just a few of the words used to describe fashion stylings that have a special quality about them. Luxe embellishments are the new trend for this coming fall season; let’s take a moment to look at what this means exactly.

Luxe is a term meaning luxury, quality and upper class. An embellishment is just a fancy name for an accessory. The basic concept here is that it has a sparkle to it whether it is a luxurious fabric that has a brilliance to it, or perhaps has sequence, flashy gems or some other quality that amplifies the radiance. Embellishing fashion has no bounds, shirts, skirts, handbags, necklaces, ear rings, patterns, bold colors, jackets, pants, scarves, rings, even your dogs leash can be embellished.

Some examples include this black and light gold bag from Rebecca Minkoff which can be purchased for an easy $325 from Revolve Clothing. The black leather sets a nice base allowing the light gold grommets to give it the soft metallic pop to have a luxe embellishment.

Neiman Marcus makes an amazing Alexis Sequined Tank which a gorgette material, cut to have a plunging neckline, naturally sleeveless and allowing for a flowing form rather than a fitting form like a traditional tank. This tank has just enough shimmer to stand out but not so much that it’s a show stopper and is available for just $148.

There really is no set color to the shimmer, be it gold, silver or some other primary color, it appears that the source of the glimmer isn’t as important as the overall effect it gives. Some people don’t enjoy wearing “flashy” apparel, so perhaps an accessory is more their style. Take the Elaborate Necklace from Donna Karan, this stunning piece has beaded glass applied to a panel of satin, giving it the form and elegance that it demands. The staggering $1,500 price tag is likely out of most people’s budget, but it is quite the necklace.

Luxe embellishment is about the pop and sparkle, so whether you make it flashy with light catching gems, make it subtle with a reflective fabric or make it barely seen with a shimmering under-nothing, make it yours.

‘Skinny Jeans’ Are Super Fab! (Not Emo Anymore!)

August 18, 2010 by IamMoody

I am not so sure where the premonition that ‘emo kids’ and the ‘emo culture’ were the very first of all underground trends to adopt the skinny jeans philosophy. I actually have a good mind to think that this style of molding denim so that it ever so accentuates the body is more relative to the early 70s—and onwards—when hair bands and rock stars, as well as models, were always wearing jeans that were so tight that you nearly needed a pair of needle nose pliers in order to get your zipper all the way up. One thing is for sure: While the emo culture dominates the wearing of theses jeans presently—and I am not knocking any of you emo-loving people out there—there are plenty of reasons why other people (like me and you, etc.) can enjoy wearing skinny jeans on our legs as well!

To come fully clean, I was originally way into skateboarding when I was in high school, and the type of denim that I wore tended to be really baggy jeans with lots of pockets. Now, however, I am even seeing that more skaters rolling around town are sporting the skinny jean look. Perhaps they find it easy to maneuver their skateboard decks with these types of pants on. I have heard them be called other things as well, ranging from the omnipresent slang tagging of ‘weenie squeezers’ all the way to ‘gag-wear’ (because they fit so snug and tight).

But in all reality, I just got my hands on a few new pairs of white, blue and black denim skinny jeans, and I couldn’t be happier. They truly add some flare to my look, they ever so eloquently silhouette my legs and lower-to-upper sections of my body, and I am getting more brandishing looks from the ladies (as well as getting hit on) far more often. So for me, skinny jeans have truly allowed for me to change up my look a tad bit.

At the same time, trying to find a pair of them in 32 x 30 is a real challenge.

Hottest Summer Hair Styles

July 27, 2010 by IamMoody

People are always obsessed with their hair or lack there of. This is why people who cut hair professionally have such rich success. At the same time, products and procedures that promise to bring hair back also enjoy great success. There are almost as many styles of hair do’s as there are people. Knowing what the current trends are can help a person remain relevant and up to date. This helps to provide a person with confidence since they then know that their hair looks good. This also helps to add the finishing touches to a person’s appearance, bringing everything together.

Women: Ladies, you do not neglect your time picking out a wardrobe and applying make-up, please do not neglect your hair any longer. The current trends include that long hair with a sleek shine to it. This is not accomplished by tying the whole mess into a sloppy pony tail as you rush out the door. Instead, consider putting a texturing cream in your hair and leaving it down. This creates a more sultry appearance that is appropriate for both the work environment and the night life.

Not everyone can wear long hair. For those who prefer the medium length styles, remember that retro is still in. Stick to classic styles. The medium length hair can be made more daring by adding splashes of color, such as red highlights. The tussled look for medium length hair is not a good idea because it simply looks not brushed, rather than sultry or daring.

Short hair can also be very stylish. Using the texturing creams and a gel, you can create a great and fashionable spiky style. The sleek look is also in for the short hair, with bobs being a big hit. If highlighting short hair, keep the highlights blocky and limited. If the highlights are all over, the short hair will make it look as though your hair is that color rather than being highlighted with another color as the base.

Men: You are not off the hook. If you are going to shave you head, please leave a little bit of hair on top. The clean shaven head only looks good on a few people. Instead consider a little bit of hair on your head. Fades are all the rage, with longer hair on top and shorter hair on the back and sides of the head. This can be played down for work by leaving it without any product and then made sexy with a little bit of gel, spiking the hair on top. Long hair is not necessarily a good idea for guys and the mullet is so out. Please, either long or short, not both. You cannot have work in front and party in the back.
