March 14th – 2nd Annual Jamaican Fundraiser

February 12, 2009 by IamMoody

Annette Fitterer friend of IamMoody.com is holding her 2nd Annual Fundraiser.  Read her note below and consider attending.  We hope to see you at Rock Bottom on March 14th.

Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery, calling out to you inviting you to the 2nd Annual Jamaican Fundraiser.  It is that time again to bring the Caribbean to the floors of Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery.  To all of you that know me I raise money for pre-schools in Jamaica.  This is my life passion and these kids are the wind beneath my wings.  This year we have a couple different projects we would like to conquer and they are:   to provide electricity to the school, finish the fencing, fix a door that was damaged due to the hurricane and possibly be able to build a small play ground.

Last year we held the fundraiser in honor of my birthday on February 23rd but we had to push it back this year a month so the date is  March 14, 2009.  It will again be held at Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery from 2:00 – 6:00.

We will have full Caribbean décor, some good steel drums, food, beer, raffle prizes and a silent auction.  We will be selling tickets prior to the event this year.  The cost of a ticket prior to the event is $20.00, the day of the event it is $25.00 and $45.00 for a couple.  The cost gets you into the event, free food and beer!  If you are interested in helping sell tickets please let me know.

Your presence at the event would be greatly appreciated or if you are not able to attend and would like to purchase a ticket, give me a call.  Also, we are able to take monetary donations this year because I am piggy backing with a non-profit organization who is working with us.

Then, if you would be so kind to forward the e-mail, facebook it, text it or whatever communication you have to get it out to your family and friends inviting them to join in the day that would be wonderful.  The more the merrier!

Last year I was deeply touched by the wonderful raffle prizes and silent auction items that were donated.  Our goal last year was $4000.00 and we raised $5081.00 and we redid the whole inside of Fort Williams pre-school.  The children no longer have cement falling on their desks.  It would be fabulous if we could double the money this year.

This has been my own personal mission and last year I asked for help and so many people stepped up in so many ways.  Now these are not only my children they are our children.  Come and hang out on the beach with us here at Rock Bottom.!!!

WHERE:     Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery
WHEN:       March 14, 2009
TIME:         2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
COST:         You can purchase tickets prior to the event for $20.00
Day of the event cost is $25.00 per person or $45.00 a couple
You receive free food and free beer!

You are also asked to bring a t-shirt for either a boy or a girl ranging from 3 years old to 6 years old or a low priced pair of kids sneakers.

Feb 2 – 25 – Penumbra Exhibit

February 6, 2009 by IamMoody

It’s worth the time to experience Penumbra Theatre’s exhibit on display with vivid imagery, historical photos, show props, and fascinating information honoring August Wilson and African American life throughout the 20th century. The exhibit depicts Penumbra’s staging of Wilson’s 20th Century Cycle, an authentic representation of the hardships and triumphs of African Americans from 1900 to 2000, decade by decade.

Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson dedicated his life to creating stories and characters that were worthy of the black people he knew and of the richness of the culture he saw. “We are what we imagine ourselves to be and we can only imagine what we know to be possible. The founding of Penumbra Theatre enlarged that possibility.” — August Wilson

Come celebrate the work of this great writer and the art staged by the artists he regarded so highly-and rediscover a century of American life.
