Frizzy, Curly Hair Easily Remedied with the ‘No Poo’ Philosophy

June 23, 2010 by IamMoody

First off you are probably wondering just what in the heck that ‘No Poo’ really means. It is actually a method of hair care that comes from author and cosmetologist, Lorraine Massey’s book, which is entitled, “Curly Girl.” The ‘No Poo’ aspect is one that she discusses in her book which means that people who have curly hair or hair that is overly frizzy (raise your hands if you do, because I have longer, wavy hair) can easily avoid many hair nightmare dilemmas by ceasing using shampoo, or by following her ‘No Poo’ philosophy.

A great citing from this book really sheds some light on why Massey feels so strongly and adamantly opposed to people using shampoos in their hair when in the shower.

“You’d never dream of washing a good sweater with detergent. Yet most shampoos contain harsh detergents (sodium laurel sulfate or laurel sulfate) that one finds in dishwashing liquid. They’re great for pots and pans because they cut grease so effectively.

Your hair, on the other hand, needs to retain some natural oils, which protect hair and the scalp. Stripping them always deprives the hair of necessary moisture and amino acids and makes it look dry and dull.

The truth is that lathers don’t cleanse at all – manufacturers put lathering agents into products so that you buy into the joy-of-suds myth.”

I have actually been trying out Massey’s philosophy, as she does recommend using all-natural and chemical-free shampoos a few times per week. But it is really easy and has worked wonders on my hair. I use a small amount of conditioner in the shower and then blow dry using a thermal-protector and anti-frizz. Than my hair is prepped to do battle with the flatiron.

The results are fab.

Long and sheen hair that is void of frizz, glamorous looking, sexy and gorgeous.

Maybe you should go ‘No Poo’ and see if you have the awesome results that I have been enjoying!

I do miss the suds, however.

Looking Like the Stars

June 21, 2010 by IamMoody

There are many different looks that the celebrities provide. There is the grunge look, the rocker girl look, the professional and the diva. All of these looks have one thing in common, the clothing fits the individual. I’m not talking that the clothing shows the person’s personality and behaviors, but rather the clothing physically fits the person and uses tailoring to accentuate and hide certain parts of the body.

It is often thought that the more expensive the piece, the more likely it is to fit, this is not always, or even usually, the case. Many of the name brand clothes are stitched in the same facilities, by the same machines and same people, as the non-name brand clothing. The only difference in most clothes is the cost of the clothing. Instead of focusing on the name brand, people should focus on the cut of the clothing.

Darting is a fashion miracle. Darting creates a line for the eye to follow and can be used to increase or decrease the appearance of a body part. Darting can be used to make the bust look bigger and the waist look smaller. Clothing, such as jackets, with darting can be used to take pounds of a person and build bulk where there is none.

Tapering is another useful fashion tool. Tapering is done when the clothing becomes progressively smaller. Think the skinny jeans. They are smaller at the ankle than they are the top of the leg when the strait leg jean is the same size all the way down. This provides the body with a little more height and a leaner look.

Color is an all too frequently misused fashion tool. A lot of people buy colors that they like, but not necessarily appropriate for their skin tone. Other people like to hide behind colors like black in hopes of blending in and hiding their body that they may not be comfortable with. Carefully match the different colors of the fashion world to your skin tone, eyes and hair. This will provide the best results possible and keep you looking beautiful. Black is not as slimming when used all over the body as a single piece of black is and white can make a body stand out and appear bigger.

Patterning is almost more important than color. Pick patterns in clothing that are flattering to the body. If you have a small chest, consider using a horizontal stripe across it to make it appear bigger. If you have a large chest, maybe a diagonal stripe or arrow point down the center of the piece. Do not use horizontal stripes over the widest part of your body. Vertical lines give length, horizontal lines give width. Decorative details like dots and flowers add interest, but the size must be watched on them. Too big and the interest pieces will be overwhelming, too small and they will be hard to see.

Texture is also very important. Remember to use rich fabrics to convey a richer feel. Polyester is nice and pretty, but it can be uncomfortable. Use it if you are comfortable with it, but make sure you keep it in good condition. Cotton and other all natural materials are more comfortable and can be stunning. These are the most recommended materials for dressing.

Keeping all of these factors in mind is important when trying to dress well. However, the most important thing to remember when purchasing clothing is the fit. Do not assume that you fit or you do not fit something. Do not purchase clothing that does not fit you. If you have to lay down on the bed to zip up your pants, it does not fit you. If you cannot see the shape of your body, it does not fit you. If you are unsure about how the piece fits or if it fits you correctly, after all we are our worse enemies, consider bringing a supportive but honest friend with you when you go shopping. This will help you to look put together, fashionable and like the celebrities, even when shopping at Wal-Mart.

Vintage Men’s Jeans Are In!

June 21, 2010 by IamMoody

When it comes to fashion mainstays, jeans of all colors will never fade out. All puns are fully intended here—as I have been seeing this awesome resurgence of vintage men’s jeans as of late, and I could not get anymore giddier about this prospect. I love wearing jeans, especially a few choice and select pairs of vintage men’s jeans that are truly an amazing addition to my daily attire. The best part about men’s jeans – provided you have a good idea of what your sizes are – is that you can usually find the best selections of vintage jeans online.

Many companies specialize in selling them online at stores like Ebay, where you can bid on them. You can find all styles and cuts, which span many different eras in the evolution of blue jeans and jeans as we know it. The denim still has plenty of venom, so to speak! Another great and money-saving approach to finding the ideal pair of vintage jeans or designer jeans that you want can easily be found if you are nifty, thrifty shopper.

Such thrift stores contained unknown amounts of treasures in the vintage jeans variety. But you won’t pay the high vintage price tag to get your hands on them. You can see what I mean if you stop and take a gander at the jeans most men are wearing that pass you by when you are walking down the street.

Vintage is in. It is cool, and it is most definitely back for men these days!

Adding a Designer Men’s Necklace to the Mix Can do Wonders for Outfits!

June 21, 2010 by IamMoody

The wonderful world of men’s fashion these days is one that many embody but that there are still countless who are clueless. Not to place any blame on the shoulders of anyone here – I am sure we all have our fashions dos and don’ts. But one thing is made ever so apparent in the world of fashion today, particularly men’s fashion: Accessories are a staple to any outfit that you can choose to wear as your fancy and trendy ‘threads’ for the day.

You have lots of different options when it comes to designer men’s necklaces, and before you stop and say “I can’t afford these” wait a tick, because there are some truly fab online stores that you can easily enjoy massive savings on necklaces these days. This begs to ask the question of what is in and out in the realm of men’s designer fashion necklaces.

In all reality, lots of things are in right now.

Perhaps a popular variety would be those of the titanium or precious metals in white, like soft white gold and sterling silvers with the allure and sparkle that can really make your neckline stand out—and truly complete any outfit selection you choose to wear. (See picture to the upper left.) Then there are the ever so popular handmade necklaces that can really add a warm, earthy tone to your outfits. Finally, there are the always gaudy and flashy necklaces that scream classiness and really can make heads turn when you embark out on the town for a night of fun-having!

In any case, a necklace is a must-have men’s accessory and fashion staple in the modern world!

Flip Flopping Mess

June 19, 2010 by IamMoody

Now, I know that it is summer and summer fashions tend to be rather casual. However, enough with the flip flops, especially the ones that are made out of foam and plastic. These flip flops are designed for dorm showers, not for every day wear. Not only do they look tacky, but they are bad for your feet as well. Do you see these flip flops on the red carpets of Hollywood? I don’t see flip flops, I see stylish summer shoes and sandals. Still want that free feeling on your feet, but do not want to be a fashion disaster? There are some very cute summer shoes that can replace those tacky flip flops.

Let’s take a look at some cute summer shoes that are affordable and flirty. There are some cute sandal heels that are just to die for. Shoes like the BigBaby from Nine West is cute enough for a casual lunch with friends, yet sophisticated enough to be a work appropriate shoe. The Ideal also matches this critic for a cute sandal type shoe.

The DSW has a large number of sandal flats that are great and stylish alternatives to the flip flop. One of my favorites is the Soul Mate Sandal from Aerosoles. This cute sandal is light weight and provides only a slight rise. The Soul Mate Sandal is perfect for people who do not want to wear heels but wish for a little extra height.

If you absolutely have to have a slide on sandal, opt for something a little more durable and classy than the plastic and foam flip flop. Shoes.com has some cute and affordable slides that can handily replace the flip flop. A top trend this summer is the Shape Up slide. This shoe is said to help tone your legs while still being stylish. From personal experience, I can say that they work great and still look good.

When purchasing a sandal of any type, there are some things to look for. The primary thing is the fit of the sandal. The shoe should not be pulling off your feet every time you take a step. That slapping noise that flip flops make indicates that it is an improper fit. Not only will an improper fit be uncomfortable and can result in dirt getting in the shoe, but it can also be harmful. A poor fit will cause blisters and sores on your feet which can be easily infected due to the bacteria on your feet. In addition to a good fit, be sure that they will go with your outfits. Do not buy a pair of shoes just because they are cute. Buy a pair of shoes that work with your dress style, just not the flip flop please. Most importantly, buy a pair of shoes that you like. No one else has to wear them but you, although we all have to see them.
