Eminence Skin Care at Eclectic Spalon

June 20, 2011 by IamMoody

One of the best parts about my job is that I get to try out new products that come into the spa.  I love samples, and if you saw my linen closet you would know that I love me some products too!  I love the packaging, the way they smell,  the idea that I am doing something good for my skin, and excited with anticipation to see the results.  The worst is when you have spent so much money on a product that doesn’t work, and we have all done that.

That is why I have fallen in love with Eminence Skin Care.  They always deliver on all of their promises, they smell amazing, and the results are the best that I have ever had.  One of the new samples that have come into the spa is the Pink Grapefruit-c Gel.  This gel is is a light-weight moisturizer that is recommended for people with oily, blemished or normal skin types.  This c gel has vitamin C that will help the skin look younger, and a refreshing peppermint that will help heal and prevent blemishes.  The combination of the grapefruit and peppermint smells amazing and I’m loving the lightweight feel.  Once you try Eminence Skin Care everything else pales in comparison.  Come fall in love like I did.

Skin Care is Meaning, Relaxing and Informative

June 15, 2011 by IamMoody

I bet your asking yourself, if you have never had one of course, do I really need to get a facial?? They are just going to clean my face, put some stuff on it, and in a couple of days it will be back to the same old face just like before right?

Well, you couldn’t be more wrong!  Getting a facial can be both relaxing, informative, and meaningful.

Meaningful?  Well, coming from someone who had really bad acne during her teens knows how meaningful it would have been for me to have clear skin.  Feeling comfortable in ones skin leads to confidence, and who knows where that can lead!
Relaxing?  What could be more relaxing then taking some time out from ones stressful schedule to focus just on you and your skin care needs?  In skin care there is no basic facial.  Every facial is done similarly, but the door is always to be left open for customization.  No two facials will be alike,  just as no two people are alike.
Informative?  Well, during your appointment you have an expert at your disposal to ask any question that has you stumped.  Whether it is regarding make-up, at home care, or a just recommendation, feel free to ask.  They are expecting you to!

Controlling the Frizz

June 15, 2011 by IamMoody

This year, I’m cheating. I cut all my hair to shoulder length and have it layered in such a way that it does not really get frizzy and if it does, it actually looks like it is supposed to be that way. This being s

aid, this length of hair is something new to me. I used to be the long haired girl who had to move her pony-tail before she sat down or risk sitting on it. Frizz used to be my nemesis, right up there with car doors and seat belts. (The car doors are great for closing on your hair and the seat belts catch your hair when you unbuckle, pulling it.)

This being said, with years of long hair, I became almost an expert in avoiding frizz, although seat belts and car doors still got me on a regular basis. Here are some of my best tips to keep the frizz away and enjoy soft and manageable hair all season long, no matter what the weather is doing.

  • Blow dry your hair so that the nozzle of the blow dryer is pointed down. This can take some practice in order to get right, but with some flexibility and practice you’ll be able to dry your hair just like the professionals. Don’t forget the brush, by the way, you’ll want to brush your hair down while you are blow drying it in order to avoid it becoming tangled.
  • Tying the hair up was my number one favorite way to dry my hair. Yes, it took forever if I pulled my hair into a bun and let it air dry, but it gave my hair a natural curl and eliminated all frizz and static electricity from my hair. Braids and tight pony tails work wonders as well.
  • Use a leave in conditioner. I know it can be difficult to avoid using too much conditioner when you are using a leave in, but if you use a quarter sized drop of leave in conditioner and then spread it from the tips to the roots, you can eliminate frizz. This can also be achieved with a small amount of hair gel and some people suggest hand lotion, but I’ve never tried that one.
  • I recently heard that placing a frozen towel around the hair can also eliminate frizz. While I cannot attest to the effectiveness of this, I can say that when it gets hot outside, I’ll be doing this just for the fun of it.

Good luck in taming those locks of yours. Remember, if you cannot beat it, join it. Just because you want straight hair and the humidity is making your hair curl in frizz does not mean it is the end of the world. Apply a little gel or product to the hair and go with the curls. Who knows, you might just find you like them.

Why We Love Our Simply Organic

June 7, 2011 by IamMoody

Why do we love our Simply Organic? Simply Organic gives us no reason not to love them.

Let’s start off by saying they are a local company. When I say local I mean like a mile away Spring Park local. They are a worldwide company and founded by a sweet, sweet man who believes in what he sells. No bull, no smoke, no crap (as in ingredients).

Simply Organic is a company that was founded in the belief what we put on our skin is just as important as what we put in our body. In fact, you can eat your imply Organic Shampoo if you get desperate although it does not taste the best, yes I tried thank you. I first discovered this company by accident when we decided to open shop here in Orono. They sent Jen and I some samples and within two washes I was hooked. My hair felt like I have never felt it before. It felt natural and light. My family curse of thin hair started to actually reverse or at least appear to be less.

I come from an industry pushing chemicals on people all the time and since leaving that industry 7 months ago and using organic products and eating more organic foods I feel better, lost weight and I’m not kidding.

I love Simply Organic because they were ahead of their time when the started in early years of the century. Well nobody is laughing now. They just launched the first and only ammonia free hair color which has blown away clients and made for some beautiful looking women leaving my salon and spa. The color works using a natural process letting the body absorb what it wants and needs rather than forcing the hair to take color like traditional ammonia filled color.

My favorite reason I love Simply Organic it just smells soooooooooooo good!

Keeping Your Dog Safe This Summer

June 7, 2011 by IamMoody

Sarah Mussett ArnettePets are often viewed by people as members of their family. I know for certain that my Pitt/ German Shepherd is a member of my family. She behaves like a daughter and enjoys going everywhere with us. We also enjoy taking her just about everywhere. However, it is not safe for her to go everywhere, especially as the temperatures begin to sore for the summer.

I know it can be hard to leave a dog or cat at home. They enjoy going everywhere with their parents. Many dogs enjoy being in the car and going for rides. Many people feel bad leaving their dog in the home when they get to go out and do things. However, leaving the dog in the car for even a few minutes can be deadly.

Dogs do not sweat. They pant in order to regulate their body temperature. If they are in a car, even with the windows cracked, the temperature in that car can quickly rise to the point where heat stroke can become a serious concern. The dog will not be able to cool himself off and can suffer dehydration, seizures, coma and even death due to excessive heat.

Another dangerous activity that most people overlook is leaving their dog in the backyard for the day. While the dog may be able to pant and even if there is some water in the backyard for the dog, it can quickly become too hot and uncomfortable for the dog to be happy or healthy. This is especially true if there is not a lot of shade in the backyard for the dog. While many people provide dog houses for their pets, the sad truth is that many of these houses are even hotter than the outside sun. If it is a hot sunny day, be sure to bring your dog inside and give him a comfortable place to rest and be cool.

Swimming is the third big danger for dogs. I have a dog who lives to swim. She is a strong and solid swimmer but even she can become tired and not realize that she’s not able to continue on. This can cause the dog to drown. A life vest can greatly reduce the chances of the dog drowning and give her a better chance of enjoying the beach or pool.

No matter what, never let your dog off leash unless the commands heel and recall are perfect with your dog. Dog and car accidents can be greatly reduced if the dog is controlled on a leash and kept off the street. If your dog is able to be off leash, be sure that he or she always wears a collar with identification and a micro-chip is also advisable incase you and your dog are ever separated.

Storing Clothes for the Summer

June 7, 2011 by IamMoody

Well, finally it is warm and staying warm. The threat of frost is still here, but the threat of snow and ice has finally disappeared. Sweaters are no longer the necessary article of clothing, but rather short sleeves and tank tops. Breaking out the summer clothing means one thing though, storing the winter clothing.

Without proper storage, the winter clothing will take up most of the room that your summer clothing will need. This can make it very difficult to find the desired outfit and can make it more difficult to keep everything looking good. There are a few different ways to store the clothing for the summer. These different techniques have different pros and cons, but they are all pretty effective.

  • Space Bags- These bags are made of a tough plastic that is folded into a bag with a zipper. The bags also feature a small port where a vacuum hose could be attached and air removed from the bag. This compresses the fibers and flattens the material. The up side is that this means a lot of clothing can be stored in a very small area. The downside is that if the material is held in that position for a long period of time, over a year, the fibers begin to wear and become creased in that position.
  • Hangers- The hanger is a common storage way. The hangers hold the clothing and often a plastic covering is placed over the clothing and hanger. The up side to this is that the clothing is left wrinkle free. The downsides to the hangers are that they are space consuming and they can wear on the shoulders of the outfits. This technique is best used for very short periods of time.
  • Trunks- I personally store all my seasonal clothing in trunks until they are ready to be used. The upside of the trunk is that the clothing is folded naturally and the trunks can be stored easily. A small fragrance pouch can be added to the trunk to infuse the clothes with sweet scents. The downside is that the trunk can get dusty or moldy if they are subjected to water damage. While this has never happened to me, it is a potential.
  • Garbage Bags- A lot of people store there clothing is garbage or other plastic bags during the off seasons. The upside is that the method for storing the outfits is more affordable. The downside is that the bags are not water and dust proof and the bags can rip. This is not an ideal way to store clothing.

Another important thing to remember is that the clothing from one season may not be necessarily fit or be in style the next time that season comes around. A good idea is to sort through the clothing and remove the outfits you no longer want from your wardrobe. There are many different charity organizations such as the Salvation Army that would love to have the clothing that you no longer want. I personally love to donate to the Salvation Army every season.
