Hollywood

Fur Is Dead

September 30, 2011 by IamMoody

Hollywood did something amazing recently. This something is something that some people are upset about, but something that others are thrilled about. Personally, I like this action since I am such an animal lover. West Hollywood has passed an ordinance banning the sale of fur on clothing.

It is still possible to purchase fur on accessories such as gloves, boots and other accessories. The ban on fur does not mean that vintage clothing that is found in the consignment stores cannot be sold either. It will be possible to pick up a fur clothing item that has been around for years. However, new fur is no longer being sold in the clothing section.

Well, this bill has not yet gone into affect. It is scheduled to go into affect June of 2012. This will give businesses time to get ready to eliminate their fur sections and purchase new products for their stores. This will also give the counsel time to determine the fines or consequences of the sale of furs. This bill will also not necessarily affect vintage clothing and non-clothing items such as bedding. This will not affect leather, but rather clothing that has hair, wool or fur on it that includes the pelt itself. Sheerling will not be affected as this does not include the pelt or skin of the animal.

What affect does this have on the fashion world as a whole though? Well,West Hollywood is often a trend setting area. This means that there may be a decrease of fur in fashion all together. While fur will more than likely continue to be worn, there is the potential that these items will be rarer and more expensive than normal.

Personally, I tend to think that fur is something to be avoided. It requires a lot of care beyond the simple washing. It needs to be stored in climate controlled areas. It needs to be washed with certain cleaners. It can stink and decompose if it is not treated properly. In addition, just as I hate having my dog’s fur stick to me, I would be upset if my coat shed on me.

With faux fur, you can get the same look as fur. It tends to be softer and is certainly more durable than the real fur. Personally, I use this faux fur in my knitting and I love to see it on my jackets, and yes, I do check my clothing for faux fur. I love my animals, and I love that West Hollywood has stated that they love animals enough not to sell them on clothing.

See You All in Hollywood!

October 6, 2010 by IamMoody

The land of film making, movie stars, rock stars, actors/actresses and really – if you ask me – a miniature Las Vegas that is void of the casinos, Hollywood, has been whispering its name softly in my ears all year long. The last time that I ventured out West to this part of California was well over a year ago. Far too long ago if you ask me, especially when I have always loved the fashion nuances that you find in this town that is literally bursting at the seams with a hodgepodge of different cultures, trends and just about anything that you could ever think or dream of.

This time around, Hollywood beckons me for both business and pleasure. I am heading out there to meet up with some very large promoters and a few of the video game magazines I write for, to sign some contracts and get all ready for what is shaping up to be HUGE Xbox 360 pro gaming tour next year, where I will be the host. The show will also features models and musicians and bands, and it will be presenting them with awards and some pretty fat contracts to the models, bands and gamers that please the judges (I and some other well known people who I will refrain from mentioning).

Aside from business, I plan on mixing the blender with an equal amount of recreational endeavors as well. The Wax Museum is calling my name—where you can literally see a human-like form of most famous people in the US. I also plan on hitting up Universal Studios and spending a day there while in Hollywood. Last but not least on my to-do list is to stop by David Rouze’s recording studio—Bay Seven Studios—and check on in with some pretty famous cats that are cutting tracks over there. Hopefully I can get some good pictures taken to share with you all when I get back. I am confident that I will have some sort of fashion-California diatribe to share upon returning as well.

Until then, “Beverly Hills…that’s where I want to be! Living in Beverly Hills! Beverly Hills, rolling like a celebrity!”

Okay, well sub out Beverly Hills for Hollywood, and you get the general idea here.

Top Three Reasons Smoking is Glamorized in Major Motion Pictures

October 6, 2010 by IamMoody

Take just about any major motion picture that you could ever hope or desire to watch and aside from a choice very few, they all have something in common. I am not talking about the obvious facts, like that they are movies, they are made on film using cameras and they feature the talents of actors and actresses as well as directors and producers. Nope. I am talking about the fact that these movies generally portray people smoking, and in a rather disturbingly loving way. It certainly is dizzyingly frightful of a notion when you really ponder it at heart.

First of all, I will admit that I am a smoker. I also know that I abhor this addiction and really want to quit smoking to avoid serious health issues later on down the road. But I can’t help but get the urge to smoke more cigarettes whenever I am watching a movie where they huff and puff and really make smoking seem to be this glamorous affair that has no consequences.

Top Three Reasons Smoking is Glamorized in Major Motion Pictures

  1. Ad sponsorships. Anytime you see a brand name of a cigarette in a movie, guess what? They got paid to brandish that ad. But aren’t tobacco commercials illegal? Guess they are okay in movies. Go FCC!
  2. Smoking is cool. Or at least it looks damn cool. That’s the main reason they told us NOT to smoke during elementary school. But Sharon Stone looks pretty sexy with a smoke in her mouth.
  3. Actor portrayals. I will agree with one notion here. That being: That sometimes a plot does call for a person to be a smoker in the movie. But do you really need to encourage a branded ad or other people, like kids, to take up smoking just to get a few extra bucks of funding from a cancer-creating corporation? I think not. Then again, the continence of morals and Hollywood will never culminate; it’s just not how the movie biz works.
