Richard Moody

The New IamMoody World Headquarters

May 21, 2009 by IamMoody

office1IamMoody has been growing nicely thanks to the support of so many businesses look for exciting event planning in the Minneapolis, St. Paul, and throughout Minnesota. We have also been growing the team.  In addition to Richard, Marcus, and Jordin we have recently added Dawn to the family.

All of this activity created the need for a common gathering spot.  It’s something we have been talking about for awhile, but never quite found the right space for our needs. Check it out our location on Google

With a little luck on our side our friends at Phillips Gardens told us about some extra space they had available.  After checking it out we all agreed it was perfect.  We are all moved in and very happy. Dawn likes the garden feel, Marcus likes the Bamboo floors, and Richard likes the fancy coffee maker.

Phillips Garden renovated the space from an old garage into a design studio in Minneapolis MN.  The studio space won a CUE Award (Committee On Urban Environment) in 2002 for “significant achievement in design and aesthetic excellence”. In 2005 we hired Alchemy Architects to create a second floor addition to our studio space in the form of a modern, modular weeHouse.  This is where our office is located.

This leads to the shameless plug for Phillips Gardens.  We have been very impressed with some of the projects. These guys are very passionate about what they do and can even mock everything up using CAD technology so you know what it looks like before it there.  They are experts at landscape design, hordicultural install and maintance.

The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide To Capitalism And Socialism With A Key To The Scriptures

Written by Tony Kushner
Directed by Michael Greif

The title of Tony Kushner’s new play is inspired by two 19th-century thinkers and their works — George Bernard Shaw’s The Intelligent Woman’s Guide to Socialism and Capitalism and Mary Baker Eddy’s Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. The play looks at the life of a 20th-century thinker, retired longshoreman Gus Marcantonio (filmmaker, actor and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Michael Cristofer), who’s feeling confused and defeated by the 21st century. In summer 2007, he invites his sister and his three children (who in turn bring along spouses, ex-spouses, lovers and more) to a most unusual family reunion in their Brooklyn brownstone.

With humor and passion, the play examines the importance of connectedness and belonging – to a family, a community, a group, an ideology, a marriage – and what happens when those connections are lost.

This production contains strong language, sexual situations, smoking and nudity.

Caroline, Or Change
Book and lyrics by Tony Kushner
Music by Jeanine Tesori
Directed by Marcela Lorca

Set in 1963 Louisiana, against the backdrop of the civil rights movement, Kennedy’s assassination and the Vietnam war, this Tony-nominated musical centers on Caroline Thibodeaux, a divorced African American maid and Noah Gellman, the eight-year-old son of the Jewish family for whom she works. When Caroline finds loose change in Noah’s pants pockets at laundry time, Noah’s stepmother Rose tells her to keep it to teach him a lesson and to treat her four children. Yet the acceptance of change – from taking money from a child to coping with memories of the past – does not come easily and threatens to crush Caroline’s relationships and spirit. It’s finally through her independent teenage daughter’s vision and strength that Caroline realizes that change can, in fact, set her free.

Featuring a virtuosic score by Jeanine Tesori (Shrek the Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie), it blends blues, gospel and traditional Jewish melodies, creating a breathtaking medium for Kushner’s provocative and personal story. When Caroline, or Change opened in New York, Frank Rich of The New York Times called the musical “extraordinary” and Time magazine noted “the score is almost entirely sung through — but with a story so grounded in the ordinary details of life in a specific place and time that it almost seems to have discovered a new genre.”

Lisa Speer Update From Caregivers Melanie & Mary

May 3, 2009 by IamMoody

Lisa Speer  is a dear friend of mine and I wanted to post this for all my friends who know her.

Richard Moody

—————————————————————————–

If you have any Lisa memorabilia, it now would be the time to have it autographed by her, because let us tell you, she has become a (more) famous person within the walls of the Mayo Clinic today.

She had a very busy day down there.  Jackie took her down this afternoon for some pulmonary (lung) tests and to meet with her oncologist.  Leave it to our Lisa to be the first patient in 30 years at the Mayo Clinic to stump them with this particular issue.

She is allergic to Taxol (her chemo drug).  Her doctor has never seen this type of allergic reaction to Taxol in his 30 years of practice.  We always knew our Lisa was special.

Ok, so what this means……they told her she has pulmonary toxicity (basically chemo ‘pneumonia’) from the Taxol.   The great news is that no permanent lung damage has occurred so she can fully recover from it and there will be no long term affects.

She learned also that this does not knock her out of the case study and she will continue with that medication every three weeks down at Mayo until the end of June.  She will still undergo her radiation in rochester.

As you can imagine, she is a roller coaster of emotions this afternoon. She will have 100 more questions before she gets back to River Falls and trust us, she get them answered on Tuesday when she returns to Mayo.

They started her on a steroid that they assured her would help her feel better within a few days, her hair will start to come back and we’ll be sure to post photos of the bandanna burning party when it happens!

I appreciate very much all of you reaching out to her last time when I posted, so I’m going to come back at you again – there are not enough words to tell all of you how much your words mean to her.  It takes you five minutes to post on her caringbrige site and it carries her throughout an entire day.  Pretty good rate of return if you ask me.

She was very concerned that all of you get an update as soon as possible as she’s not felt good enough to update since yesterday morning.  She’s exhausted. She’s not sleeping.  But, we are force feeding liquids and food and there is light at the end of the tunnel.  So, if you don’t hear from her right away or she doesn’t answer your call – leave a message, leave a post, she’ll get to it, trust us.

UPDATE FROM LISA:
I am going to ‘chime in for a minute: by now most of you know of the scary 2.5 weeks I have had and the startling news I received from mayo. in both regards – chemo – and pulmonary pneumonia. some of the pulmonary tests indicated that i was only getting 35% oxygen at times. my oncologist said he had not seen this in his 30 years of practice and that had this condition been left as it, we would have been looking at pulmonary fibrosis and eventual death sooner than later. i tell you this because one thing cancer and this past 4 months has taught me and i want to pass on to you is how important it is to be your own health advocate, for you or for your loved one. if you do not like the answer, result, doctor, or what ever – BE PRESISTANT!!!!! FIGHT THEM, GET THE ANSWERS, YOU KNOW WHEN SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT AND PUSH UNTIL YOU ARE HAPPY AND FEEL THAT ALL HAS BEEN DONE THAT CAN AND SHOULD BE DONE! WE ARE WORTH IT!

Okay, I am done with that soap box.

Slowly, I am getting little bits of strength back and I mean little, but that is great.  I even found a few hairs on my legs!! not to mention a little bit of ‘stubble’ on my head. I might not have to work on tanning it after all.

I will ‘chime out’ for now and leave you with the harley davidson thought for the day: THE WORLD STANDS ASIDE TO LET ANYONE PASS WHO KNOWS WHERE HE IS GOING.

I know where I am going, I hope you do too.  Thankyou my nwa/delta family for your cards, calls, emails and vacation donations. each and all are very special to me as you are. they really do carry me through my sometimes long days.   fly safe.

Good Night
