What To Do This Fall

September 14, 2011 by IamMoody

Well, the concert season is winding down. The days at the beach are becoming shorter and less frequent. There are not as many outdoor festivals and events being held. For some, fall is the downward slide into boredom and work. For others, it just means finding different things to do than what they enjoyed during the summer months.

richard moodyWhile IAmMoody and Richard Moody always has things going through out the year to keep you entertained, here are some other ideas that can help. After all, why should fall mean a lack of activity and fun? Get out and enjoy this brilliantly colored season!

  • Hit up the 2011 Minnesota Renaissance Festival- This festival goes on from August 20th to October 2nd every weekend. This is a great time of year to check out such a fair. From past experience, corsets are hot and heavy, however during this time of year they are far more comfortable. Enjoy the good food, fun shows and awesome costumes.
  • Ever smell an amazing apple pie? Want your house to smell that warm? Well, bake a pie from any number of the orchards that surround the area. Check out these orchards. Often they even have fun activities going on during the fall months.
  • Check out the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden- The scenery is amazing. There are tons of sculptures, moving and stationary, as well as beautiful scenery. Fall mixes the beauty of these sculptures with the colors of the trees and brilliant landscapes!
  • Mill City Museum has a wide range of history- This is one of the top rated museums around. This museum has a lot going on within its walls, show cases the natural history of life, as well as art works. Check out the tower tour if possible when visiting.
  • Take a horse drawn carriage ride with the Hitching Company. This company provides carriage rides of downtown Minneapolis. There are even cultural and historical narratives if one wants to listen while enjoying the sights and sounds from a different angle of life.

Enjoy this season for all that it is worth. After all, there is no need to be bored when there is so much to do! The bright colors and cooler days of autumn make this one of the best seasons of the year. Get out and do something!

Dealing With Morning Frustration

September 14, 2011 by IamMoody

Well, it is officially fall. Well, not quite but close enough. The schools have restarted and there are people going crazy with need and speed. That being said, it is important for those who are on the road to keep an eye out for children and other drivers. This can help to ensure that everyone stays safe and secure during this hectic time.

School time is a frustrating and stressful time. Students have to get up early and get themselves dressed and to classes. Parents have to take their children to school and still get to work on time. This is often complicated by the stresses that children add to their parents simply by being children. Parents of first year students also have to deal with the heart break of taking their children to school rather than spending the entire day with their child.

  • Plan on delays. Even if you do not have children to take to school, the other people on the road may. This can lead to delays and frustrations. By planning on these delays you can avoid the frustration that is caused by being late. If you are a parent taking your children to school, get the children up earlier and take your time while maintaining a sense of urgency and importance to the task.
  • Limit distractions. Avoid using your phone and definitely do not text while driving. This can cause accidents and dangerous driving. Most accidents are caused by distracted driving. Distracted driving and dangerous driving can cause people to miss turns, run lights and fail to notice those who have suddenly stopped.
  • Set up a pattern. By knowing what you are going to do, how you are going to get from point A to point B, you can become more aware of where you are and moves that can save you time. In addition, if you set a pattern for yourself, your morning can go smoother all the way around as you will know where everything is and be able to complete a morning routine without undo pressure.
  • Get ready the night before. A lot of time is wasted looking for things right before leaving the home. By getting ready the day before, you can eliminate some of the wasted rushing around getting ready to go. This preparedness can include clothing for the next day, packing lunches and book bags. This is often considered one of the best ways to eliminate the frustration and stress associated with getting out the door.

Hot New Shoes for 2011

September 13, 2011 by IamMoody

Fall is here! With fall comes cooler temperatures, sudden weather shifts and the possibility of snow. This season also means beautiful leaves, pretty sunsets and a few extra pieces of clothing are needed to enjoy the weather. This also means a shift in shoes is needed in order to enjoy the weather.

This season is all about color. This season will include the traditional black and white look. There will also be an emphasis on stone, beige and khaki. There are a few colors that pop such as metallic, burgundy, chocolate and red. These colors will be dark with bright colors being harder to find this season.

The top textures of this season will include the always fashionable lace and leather. There will also be satins and patent as well. There will be some shoes that include reptile skin and fur. While these can be tempting to wear, animal lovers world wide are not in favor of these shoes. Instead, consider buying fake skin textures.

The heel of these shoes is very important. Since this is now fall, consider putting away the spiked heels and breaking out the wedges and slightly thicker heels. These heels provide a little bit more support than the thin, spiked heels and a bit better traction in the potential for snow.

Watch out for laces this season. They will be everywhere. These laces will add a hint of sex appeal to the average shoe. To emphasis this look, thicker nylons or socks are being worn as well. Who knew that wearing socks could appear as sexy as it does. Either way, enjoy your shoes this season and be careful. It is easy to become distracted with all of the beauty of fall.

Fashion in the Skies

September 13, 2011 by IamMoody

Sex appeal and flight have been consistently paired together. Pilots and their attendants are part of a special group of people that others look up to, envy in the career world and enjoy dealing with. There is little that is not seen as sexy and fashionable in the aviation world, at least to the outsiders. Pilots and attendants get to fly the world, visit exotic cities, meet amazing people and see the cutting edge of flight technology.

To enhance the sex appeal, increase people’s confidence in the pilot and attendants and encourage more people to fly the aviation managers provided those flying with the most up to date uniforms possible. Often times these uniforms even spark the fashion trends that people see in the world.

In the early 1930’s, the uniforms for pilots and attendants was very conservative. The women wore straight skirts that came to the ankles. There were some women who wore pleated skirts just below the knee, but no matter what, it was simple and professional. To identify the airline, an armband with the company name on it was worn. This uniform was simple but it displayed the conservative take on the day.

By the mid to late 1940’s the uniforms were becoming more sexually appealing. Gone were the ties for women and here were the V-neck shirts, open at the top button. The hats were used to convey the working and professional attitude of the attendants and pilots. Color was beginning to enter into the uniforms, making them more attractive and more approachable.

The mid 1960’s saw the rise of the skirt. The skirts that used to be below the knee or to the ankle rose to above the knee. By the early 1970’s, the uniforms began to take on a more futuristic look. Bright colors and unconventional side uniform buttons provided this unconventional look. Star Trek uniforms and airline uniforms looked a lot alike at this time.

The mid 1970’s saw the Flower Uniform set. This uniform set provided a little bit of personalization in the uniforms. It was now possible to wear tunics with pants, blazers and skirts, blazers and pants, or a dress for women. The flower in the uniform set came in with the smock that was worn during meals. This invoked the image of the house wife and the image of frontier’s women making a life for themselves at the same time.

Sleek and sexy became the uniform of the day during the early 1980’s. These uniforms looked   more like the power suits that women began to wear at this time. This image of the airline continues through today.

What about the men in these years? Well, the men were most often the pilots. These pilots were professionals who underwent years of training to be professionals at flying the aircrafts that they were assigned to fly. These men then dressed in suits and ties that complimented the women or attendants who were on their flight crew. In order to ensure that the pilots matched the attendants, the airlines often provided the uniforms for the pilots with different options in order to provide some individuality between the pilots.

Getting Dressed to Fly

September 13, 2011 by IamMoody

Flying is a common dream for people. That being said, just about anyone can fly any more. All it takes is buying a ticket to the board a plane and travel anywhere that planes fly. This process has changed quite a bit over the decades though. It used to be that to fly one had to dress a certain way, or at least was expected to dress a certain way.
It used to be that when people got ready for flight that they dressed in their best. Men dressed in suits and women wore conservative dresses. The attendants used to collect hats and gloves at the door of the plane as passengers boarded. This was because flight was expensive and something that only the elite of society was able to enjoy. Since the flight was expensive, it was a treat to be able to fly and it was seen as a social to do.

While flight was almost immediate commercialized for public use, it was not as common as it is today. Today it is a daily thing, flights come and go at such a frequency that people never even think about flight. They dress in whatever they want to dress in, jeans, shorts and ratty tee’s. The downside of this is that it has decreased the value of flight. It is no longer the luxury transportation that it used to be.

There are some tips for dressing when flying. These tips can help provide a comfortable flight and limit the chances of being stopped by TSA. These tips can sound like common sense, but then again, common sense is not always so common.

  • Do not wear tight or new shoes when flying. Wear nice shoes that look good, lace up and fit comfortably. When flying your feet will swell and new shoes will not give enough to accommodate that. Wearing lace up shoes can help provide more room for your feet and make them feel more comfortable. Skip the flip flops though, they look trashy and cheap in most cases this is not the way to obtain an upgrade.
  • Skip outfits that wrinkle. Even though it is important to look good on the plane, wear an outfit that is stain resistant incase anything spills and something that is wrinkle resistant. There are plenty of beautiful and stylish outfits that fit in these categories.
  • Wear outfits that provide a little extra stretch. You will swell while flying and clothing that is very restrictive can feel very uncomfortable. Layers are also a good idea. Some planes can change in temperature depending upon where they are and what elevation they are at.
  • Do not purposely go against the dress code that is put out by the TSA. Do not wear baggy pants, heavy belt buckles or anything with a lot of metal that would set off the alarms. Do not wear shirts that promote terrorism or appear to slam the defenses of the country.
  • If you dress respectable, there is a higher chance of being able to get through security without any issues. If you dress cheap or “gangsterish” than there is a much higher chance of being stuck in security for quite a long time.

If you use a little bit of common sense, flying should be the simple process that it was originally meant to be. Take a minute and think about how you are going to dress and remember that the TSA is for your safety, not just to be a hassle. In addition, remember, people make snap decisions within 5 seconds of seeing you. These people are going to share a flight with you. Dress to impress.
